Before becoming a personal training, semi-private, or group training member at KORE Wellness, you must go through an initial assessment which includes the Functional Movement Screen. The FMS is a quantifiable way for us to not only document your current movement ability, but also identify limitations and asymmetries that could lead to potential injury.
Our mission at KORE Wellness is to help our clients achieve the active and healthy life they thought was only in their dreams. We cannot successfully do that if we have no idea what we are working with. The functional movement screen gives us a lot of information that allows us to guide our prospective clients based on quantifiable measurements. For example, we do not allow anyone who scores under a 14 on their movement screen to participate in group training. The reason behind this decision is that research has proven repeatedly that scores below a 14 indicate a greater risk of injury in those who participate in physical activity and exercise.
An interesting side note: a recent study shows a 4.7 times greater risk of injury in runners if your FMS score is below a 17!
Is the FMS 100% accurate as a predictor of injury? Absolutely not. But for the most part, we can clearly see if a potential client is ready to hop into classes or not. Standing by our mission, to bring our clients to the active and healthy life of their dreams, we do not break our rule. Due to this, we have had to turn some people away to other gyms where they can train the way they choose instead of work to correct the issues that need to be addressed.
For our clients who score below a 14, we do specific movement correction exercises to work on the limitations and asymmetries that are present. One of the flaws in our system has been finding the time to rescreen all of our clients. Because we want to keep up with everyone and make sure we rescreen on a regular basis, we are implementing a members-only FMS Day semi-annually.
FMS Day will give us the opportunity to rescreen everyone in one day without wasting valuable training time and will also give our clients a check in to evaluate their progress. Our first FMS day will be June 25th and we have 3 time slots 8-9:30, 9:30-11, and 11-12:30.
On FMS day, all of our current members will be rescreened, have an opportunity to meet with some of our local partners (Chiropractor, Massage Therapist, Physical Therapist, etc), renew their goals, and receive corrective exercises for their weakest link in the FMS!

Please note: This event is free of charge and only open to current members.
